Benjamin Dix is a doctoral researcher at the University of Sussex (Anthropology of Violence) and the Director of PositiveNegatives. In this PRIO seminar, co-hosted by the Migration and Media Research Groups, he will speak about representations of conflict and migration through narrative, photography and comics.

Ben will present three case studies (Sri Lanka, Syria and Somalia) in which he has used photographs and illustrations to reflect the situation of IDPs, refugees and asylumseekers. His aim is to build a single narrative of fleeing from war through the perspective of the individual / family. His innovative way of depicting conflict and its consequences can be an inspiration for researchers engaging with media representations of their work. A sample of Ben's work can be found here, as well as on BBC's website. PRIO Researcher Jason Miklian will provide comments.
